Parenting Program
Becoming a new mother or father can seem like an overwhelming and frightening prospect. It is both challenging and rewarding. Our parenting program is designed to help provide support and equip low-income first-time parents with healthy and positive ways to parent their newborn. We do this through three services:
» Pregnancy Classes
» Mentor Moms
» Mom's Club
Pregnancy Classes — are offered to anyone who is becoming a parent for the first time and wants to learn how to have a healthy pregnancy while preparing for parenthood. The classes are for seven weeks and are offered four times a year. Professionals from the community come and present information on:
- What to expect from your pregnancy
- Prenatal development
- Labor and Delivery
- Nutrition
- Breastfeeding
- Finances
Each time you participate in the pregnancy classes, you earn points that can be redeemed at our Baby Boutique. The Baby Boutique is stocked with items you will need for your newborn, such as:
- Crib and mattress
- Infant car seat
- Stroller
- Diapers
- Baby Clothing
Mentor Moms — are experienced, caring mothers who will walk along side of you, offering you emotional support throughout your pregnancy and first year of motherhood. They meet with you once a week, offering guidance and support. Once you have delivered, you and your mentor will come together with other new moms and mentors to learn about parenting skills at the Moms' Club.
Moms' Club — parenting support is offered in a group setting to women who have delivered their babies. Guest speakers from the community share their expertise on parenting skills such as:
- Time management
- Goal setting
- Child development
- Children's nutrition
If you are a becoming a parent for the first time, our commitment to you is to provide accurate information on pregnancy and parenting-related issues.
